Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring ’05: Anand Jon

Colonial tea and cocktails were served to guests at Indian couture designer Anand Jon’s Spring/Summer ’05 runway show, held Oct. 29 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills.

Marla Maples, Bai Ling and Roselyn Sanchez were among the guests who turned out to see Jon’s women’s and men’s collections.

Jon dubbed the show “Apsare,” which he said is a South Asian tantric term that means “divine concubines.”

“I’ve brought together all the different lifestyles that inspire me—everything from the sensual to hardcore,” he said. “It’s the women who break your heart, goddesses, that make the deepest impression, and that’s reflected in the line.”

Jon used a metallic fabric he called “flesh metal” as well as silk and leather in the collection. He also made metal, leather and sterling-silver accessories with co-designer Marvin Lynch, as well as shoes and boots.

“I consider myself more of a lifestyle brand than a fashion house,” Jon said.

In February, Jon will launch his first ready-to-wear line. “The company is very excited to show off the new jeans that we have created. Our goal is to own the exotica niche, and we think we have made serious headway to that end,” he noted.

The designer’s next move will be in the entertainment industry. Currently, Jon is a brand ambassador for Indian producer World Entertainment Media. “Film is the next genre I want to be involved in, and I am in the perfect position to bridge the East and West cultures.” —Susan Hornik
