Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring '05: Jenni Kayne

Jenni Kayne delivered a smart, sophisticated Spring ’05 collection on Oct. 27 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City. The young designer, who for the past several seasons has been a top draw, packed the Main Tent with an audience of fashion industry buyers and press, stylists, friends, and celebrities.

The modern sportswear collection, inspired by the “The Great Gatsby,” came in a chic palette of white, gray and black with splashes of orange, green and silver. Key looks included menswear-inspired striped dresses, pants and jackets; tailored white suits; and slouchy cashmere sweaters.

Kayne added a modern edge with silver metallic pants and jackets and silver sequined looks. Feminine baby-doll tops, skirts and dresses softened the clean lines of the collection.

Several red carpet–worthy evening gowns are sure to please the designer’s Hollywood clientele. Celebrities attending the event included Rose McGowan, Robert Downey Jr., Anthony Kiedis and Lara Flynn Boyle. —N.J.S.
