Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring '05: Single
Designer Galina Sobolev highlighted fabrics, colors and cultures from Thailand to the Cocirc;te D’Azur for the Single Spring collection, previewed on Oct. 26 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City.
Sobolev drew on looks from romantic travel destinations. Whether for hitting a bazaar in Jaipur or for wandering the alleyways of the French Riviera, Sobolev had the answer for what to wear.
She offered hand-stitched patchwork on denim, crocheted spider-web sweaters, hand-embroidered tunics with beading, silk chiffon flowing skirts and wide-leg pants. Rounding out the collection were beaded chiffons, dyed tunics, exotic cultural prints and strapless dresses with lots of detailed construction and ornamentation that seemed to work with the denim-friendly West Coast crowd.
Single has a growing celebrity following. Rachel Hunter, Traci Bingham, Aisha Tyler and Rebecca Gayheart were among those at the show looking for what’s next from the designer. —R.M.
