Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring '05: Sheri Bodell

Friday, November 12, 2004

The 1960s were back at the Sheri Bodell Spring 2005 runway show, held Oct. 29 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City.

“Twiggy was my inspiration,” Bodell said, referring to the supermodel waif with the little-boy haircut who dominated fashion magazines and advertisements during the 1960s. “We tried to get a 1960s rock ’n’ roll vibe going.”

Bodell, a native of Salt Lake City who started her fashion career in retail, loves to work with leather and silk, which she incorporated into her Spring line. The designer, whose dramatic eye makeup is reminiscent of Twiggy, designed many of the collection’s vintage-look fabrics with beading and crystal embellishment.

Black and white dominated the collection in silhouettes such as a jersey slip dress, a silk ruffled go-go dress and a tuxedo suit with leather trim. A black twill jacket gathered at the waist and punctuated with a diamond-like brooch made a sophisticated statement over black twill pants.

Wedged in between these looks were plenty of pastel styles, such as a pink silk print dress with a studded bodice and a yellow silk camisole paired with a yellow silk skirt.
