Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring '05: Szulika

Los Angeles designer Szulika culled inspiration from the ’70s for her Spring 2005 collection, spanning the fashion gap between ethnic-inspired bohemian looks and the polished sexiness of the latter half of the decade.

Szulika opened her latest runway show, held Oct. 30 at P. Ka Bu’s Blu Pinstripe Warehouse in Los Angeles, with several layered jersey pieces in deep jewel tones.

The designer followed up with bohemian styles in white gauze and orange lace trim. An orange-trimmed mini-dress and kneelength tiered skirt seemed to have been inspired by a traditional Mexican wedding dress, and an orange-trimmed wrap top was paired with an orange bandeau. Other strong styles included a white pin-tucked dropped-waist mini-dress and a pin-tucked baby-doll top worn with a white micro-miniskirt.

Szulika also mixed white with cream in a blouson strapless top and layered cropped pants sporting a drawstring waistband. The styles were accessorized with layers of gold jewelry by Arianne Jeannot. —Alison A. Nieder
