Geoffrey Beene, 77

Iconic fashion designer Geoffrey Beene died in New York on Sept. 28 from complications caused by pneumonia. Beene got his start in the display department of I. Magnin in Southern California before studying fashion in New York and Paris. After several years working for New York labels, Beene launched his own line in 1963. He was awarded his first Coty Fashion Critic Award in 1964. He later went on to win seven more as well as four awards from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
