San Francisco Fashion Week '04: Rock & Republic

Rock & Republic’s bad girls finally got some guys of their own. The Los Angeles–based denim label unveiled its men’s line at the show with a “Fight Club” theme. Featured were makeup bruises; slashed, ripped and dirtied T-shirts; and menacing accessories, including baseball bats, lead pipes, crowbars, and bottles of Jack Daniel’s whiskey. The models vamped, smoked, took sloppy swigs of liquor and beer, and picked mock fights with each other. It was “sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll”–inspired theater for a line that included women’s stovepipe jeans in dark and light denim and men’s rock star–sleek low-rise styles in medium and dirty-wash rinses. —Alison N.
