CISMA Trade Show Moves to Two-Year Rotation

The China International Sewing Machinery & Accessories Show (CISMA), which takes place in Shanghai every year, will shift to a two-year rotation beginning in 2007 to relieve some of the pressure on its exhibitors.

Show producers said the event has grown to become the largest industry trade show after IMB in Germany and added that the upcoming Aug. 30–Sept. 2 show should surpass IMB. CISMA pulls in close to 1,000 exhibitors and more than 25,000 attendees. The show takes place at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.

“Currently, as sewing machinery enterprises in China are faced with the arduous task in industrial structural adjustment, they need to invest more time, effort and money in the development of high-tech products,” said a CISMA spokesperson. CISMA officials said they received the support of all industry organizations before adopting the schedule change.

In the years that CISMA will not be held, the China Sewing Machine Association will organize regional exhibitions in major apparel production areas in China. CISMA plans to hold the South China International Sewing Machinery Show in 2006.

Among the companies signed on to participate in this summer’s CISMA are Gerber Technology Inc., Lectra, Juki, Brother Industries Ltd., Pfaff and Yamato.
