Sunset Inc. 'Diva-cizes'
For the past 20 years, Torrance, Calif.–based Sunset Inc. has been mostly satisfied with wholesaling swim brands such as Lucy Love to retailers including Nordstrom and Water Water Everywhere.
But, since 1998, Sunset has also maintained a boutique called Beachy Keane Bay, located at 1038 Hermosa Ave. in Hermosa Beach, Calif. On April 2, the company will celebrate the relaunch of the store, now named BKB. One reason for giving the store a new identity was to “diva-cize” it, according to Eden Rock, the store’s marketing chief and decorator.
That means hand-crafting chandeliers with pink-and-green crystals, putting rhinestones on the ceiling fans and painting the floor of the 1,800-square-foot shop with gold glitter.
BKB will sell contemporary casualwear in addition to its typical swimsuit offerings. Betsey Johnson, Carilyn Vaile, Hard Tail, Salt Works and Red Engine will be among the labels offered. Price points will range from $20 to $350.
