Swiss Textile Exhibit Coming to FIDM

“Textile St. Gallen,” a showcase of textiles from the Swiss canton of St. Gallen, will be part of an exhibit displaying May 26–July 1 at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles.

St. Gallen, in eastern Switzerland, is known for the fine linen, lace and embroidered cotton that have been produced there for hundreds of years. The fabrics have been sought after by such couturiers as Chanel, Christian Lacroix, Paco Rabanne and Vivienne Westwood.

The FIDM exhibit is part of an exclusive two-city tour sponsored by the Swiss Consulate, the canton of St. Gallen and color technology company Datacolor. The exhibit is currently being shown at the College of Textiles at North Carolina State University in Raleigh until April 30.

At FIDM, the exhibit will highlight various fabrics and will illustrate how the industry uses state-of-the-art technology to produce textiles.

“It’s a rare opportunity for people in the United States to experience extraordinary Swiss designs and developments in textiles,” said Datacolor President Terry Downes.

The exhibit at FIDM’s campus, located at 919 S. Grand Ave., will be open to the public Tuesdays through Thursdays, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call (213) 624-1200. —Robert McAllister
