VF Gets RFID Ready With Paxar

White Plains, N.Y.–based Paxar Corp. has sewn up a deal with apparel giant VF Corp., which will use Paxar’s Monarch series of radio frequency identification (RFID) printer/encoders and smart labels. VF will use the products for its Imagewear division of work apparel.

Large companies such as VF that are among Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s top 100 suppliers are required to tag their shipments with RFID labels, which can be tracked by scanners. Retailers such as Wal-Mart and Target Corp. are keeping track of inventories using RFID so they can replenish merchandise quickly.

VF, which has been using Paxar’s tags and labels for years, decided to launch an RFID initiative with the company because of high read rates from the Monarch equipment, VF officials said. “We performed extensive testing of RFID equipment and labels before choosing Paxar’s products for the Imagewear division,” said Jim Jackson, VF’s director of vendor relationship management.

“The labels provided by Paxar that run through Paxar’s Monarch printer/encoder have been virtually 100 percent readable,” he said. —Robert McAllister
