NewTech Visual Display 'Superstore' Opens in L.A.

Los Angeles–based Technovix Inc. has brought the big-box concept of retailing to the visual display arena with NewTech Display, a 60,000-square-foot showroom and warehouse in downtown Los Angeles offering store fixtures, mannequins and interior design services.

Technovix claims the store is the largest of its kind in the United States, with an inventory of more than 500,000 SKUs and more than 5,000 unique products.

The company has turned a former two-story apparel manufacturing facility at 2600 S. Broadway into a showcase, with a modernist ochre-and-teal faccedil;ade and towering signage. NewTech’s in-house designer, Alex Kim, did the redesign, completed last month. A 20,000-square-foot showroom features state-of-the-art store fixtures, slat wall systems, rack and hanging systems, showcases, and other visual display hardware.

Kim heads up a design team that provides interior design services to retailers, using CAD and 3-D technology from concept to finish.

“We’re catering to lots of clothing stores, mainly smaller boutiques and stores,” said company partner Frank Hong. “We’re offering more types of display items as well as different styles.”

Technovix manufactures all of its wood-based products and imports mannequins and fixtures from Korea and other Asian countries.

The family-run company is headed by Young Nam, whose staff has more than 40 years of experience in retail and visual display.
