Paxar Names New CEO

Robert van der Merwe has been hired as president and chief executive officer of White Plains, N.Y.–based labels supplier Paxar Corp.

Van der Merwe will oversee domestic and global strategies for the company, which markets tags, labels, software and other merchandising products for retailers and manufacturers. He previously held upper management positions for consumer-products giants Colgate-Palmolive Co. and Kimberly Clark Corp. He also worked for Xerox Corp. During the course of his career, he has helped manage global businesses covering more than 40 countries.

Outgoing Chief Executive Officer Arthur Hershaft said van der Merwe’s global experience was carefully considered because Paxar is continuing to grow its international business.

“Rob van der Merwe is an exceptionally good fit for Paxar. He is a global citizen, having lived and managed businesses across the globe. He has extensive experience in the retail and consumer products arena and outstanding brand-building and marketing knowledge. His proven track record in delivering top- and bottom-line results and his ability to both develop and execute successful global business strategies will greatly benefit Paxar.”

Hershaft will continue to serve as chairman of Paxar’s Board of Directors. Van der Merwe will also take a seat on the board.
