ENK to Launch Denim-Only Show in New York

New York–based ENK Trade Events International, producer of the Fashion Coterie and Brighte contemporary shows in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, will debut a denim-only show called Blue Jan. 22–24 at The Show Piers on the Hudson in New York.

The show, which will take place at Pier 92, will feature 50 denim collections. ENK President Elyse Kroll declined to release details about the event, but the company placed advertisements touting the show as a “denim art gallery” featuring innovative visual display and private work environments.

At least one Los Angeles brand, Da-Nang, said it plans to show its Stitches and Marlowe brands at the show.

Premium denim remains in-demand, but other sectors are feeling the pressure after Wall Street brokerage Wedbush Morgan downgraded stocks from “buy” to “hold” on Abercrombie & Fitch Co., Pacific Sunwear of California Inc., American Eagle and Aeropostale Inc., based in part on a denim glut.

“We recommend less exposure to teen denim-oriented retailers given increasing uncertainty,” the brokerage firm said in a note to investors.

Blue will be part of a slate of ENK-produced events held at The Show Piers. The Collective, Platinum Collections and Climate will also take place Jan. 22–24, focusing on various apparel niches.

In addition, the company reported that it will not show in Las Vegas next week after debuting its Brighte Vegas show in February. The company said it plans to resume Brighte Vegas Feb. 21–23, 2006, at the Sands Expo & Convention Center, adjacent to The Venetian hotel. —Robert McAllister
