Levi's Peter E. Haas Sr., 86

Peter E. Haas Sr., former executive of San Francisco denim giant Levi Strauss & Co., died of natural causes in San Francisco on Dec. 3. He was 86.

Haas was chairman of the executive committee of Levi’s and a greatgrand nephew of company founder Levi Strauss. During Haas’ 60 years with the company, he helped spearhead the integration of the company’s factories in the southern United States.

He is survived by his wife, Mimi, stepsons Ari and Daniel Lurie, sons Peter Haas Jr. and Michael Hass and their wives Joanne and Margaret, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. A memorial service was held in San Francisco on Dec. 6.

In lieu of flowers, the Haas family is requesting donations be made in Peter E. Haas Sr.’s name to The Athletic Study Center at the UC Berkeley Foundation, the Child Care Facilities of the Low Income Investment Fund or the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
