OptiTex Rolls Out 3-D Fabric Simulator

New York–based CAD/CAM company OptiTex USA Inc. has added a cloth simulation engine to its CAD software package to give patternmakers and designers better visualization during the sample-making process.

The fabric-motion simulator is built into OptiTex’s 3D Runway module. Company officials said it allows users to incorporate processes such as fabric collision, intersections and motion capabilities into one file that can later be exported to non–OptiTex users.

The software works through pre-installed motion-capture files. Users can also import files from third-party applications to apply motion to projects. The simulator features nonstatic images and objects and is aimed at helping users visualize patterns in real life situations and increase speed-to-market, said Opti- Tex President Yoram Burg.

“This new and highly accurate fabric-motion simulator is tomorrow’s technology and extends OptiTex’s capabilities across our line of products. It allows our users to move from first design to full motion of the pattern all within one suite of products and within one application,” Burg said. —Robert McAllister
