Color and Glamour from Poleci

The California Market Center hosted the creators of Los Angeles contemporary label Poleci at a fashion show and party on Jan. 15.

Buyers at Los Angeles Market Week ventured to the fifth-floor atrium, where the CMC had set up a runway for the event.

Co-owner Janice Levin Krok, who founded Poleci with her sister Diane Levin in 1990, thanked the retailers in the crowd for their help in the company’s success. “None of this could have been done without the support of our loyal customers,” she said. “We look forward to continuing this journey with you,” she added.

Levin, who designs the collection with Steve Sanchez, presented a look at the new colors and styles for Spring ’05, including bohemian embroidery on sexy sheer tunics and crisp white separates, flirty silk dresses and baby-doll tops in graphic prints, and camouflage prints made sophisticated with gold trim.

As always, the look was city sexy, with plenty of slim trousers and shorts topped with fluid halter tops and liquid dresses in jersey and silk.

For this season, Levin and Sanchez played with ethnicity, color, and a mix of casual and sophisticated details, Sanchez said. “The idea of pairing a glamorous top with jeans is an important statement for us,” he noted.

The collection was anchored in green, white and metallic, with splashes of turquoise, pink and black. Prints ranged from a camouflage-inspired abstract to optic polka dots and bright florals and paisley. —Alison A. Nieder
