Unifi's Poly Shift

Greensboro, N.C.–based Unifi Inc. will move the polyester texturing operations of its Reidsville, N.C., facility to a larger facility in Yadkinville, N.C. The move, expected to be completed by October, will result in a net elimination of 50 jobs. The Yadkinville facility will be dedicated to texturizing operations and, thanks to automation, has “substantial advantages” over the Reidsville plant, company executives said. As a result of the move, the fiber maker will cease texturizing the polyester yarn used in its dyed-yarn operations because the necessary equipment will not be moved to the new facility. Also, employees currently working in the texturizing division at the Reidsville plant will be offered the opportunity to transfer to Yadkinville or other Unifi plants with available jobs.
