Bloomingdale's Suit Boost

Bloomingdale's stated an eloquent case for the men’s suit at its invitation-only “Get Suited” event on March 3. More than 50 men visited the Bloomingdale’s at the Westfield Century City shopping center in Los Angeles to get makeovers and fashion tips from Kevin Harter, the store’s men’s fashion director, as well as from representatives of GQ magazine, which sponsored the event. Featured were some of Bloomingdale’s top labels, including Zegna, Canali, John Varvatos, Hugo Boss, Theory and Vestimenta.

Harter said the event was a vindication of the men’s suit. “Someone told me that Californians don’t wear suits,” he said. But this assertion, he noted, is not supported by the fact that the Century City Bloomingdale’s ranks as the company’s second-best suit store in volume, following the retailer’s powerhouse 59th Street store in New York.

Chuck Kehoe, an environmental attorney from Los Angeles who bought a Hugo Boss suit at the event, said he thinks the clothing brims with possibilities.

“This is more tailored than what I typically wear,” he said. “I feel 10 years younger.” —Andrew Asch
