FIT Gets New Technology Administrator

Alan Kane has been appointed dean of the School of Business and Technology for the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Kane is currently professor of retailing, a program he founded in 1997, at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business. His career spans nearly 30 years working for retail giants such as Federated Department Stores, The May Co., Pergament Home Centers and Grossman’s, a building materials retailer.

In his new position, Kane is responsible for the leading nine associate and baccalaureate degree programs. He spearheads the effort to develop school curricula and fundraising efforts, directs the budgetary process, and provides leadership and management in allocating resources, and recruiting, developing, promoting and retaining faculty.

Kane received a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Wharton School at the University ofPennsylvania and his master’s from the Harvard Business School. He is chairman of the board of Bluefly.com Inc. and a director of Circuit City Stores Corp.Robert McAllister
