Trina Turk Turns 10, Next Stop: N.Y.

Trina Turk’s Spring 2006 line may be playing on a DVD near you.

Instead of a gala fashion show, Turk showcased her colorful Spring 2006 line in a DVD called “Playa,” which debuted Oct. 22 at a party at her selfnamed boutique in Los Angeles. The party coincided with her company’s 10-year anniversary.

Turk’s husband, Jonathan Skow, directed the fiveminute DVD that shows model Tina Leon partying at a beach with 20 other models wearing Turk’s Spring 2006 fashions. The more than 40 looks in the DVD feature Turk’s beach designs, such as bathing suits for men and women. It also showcases clothes better worn away from the water, including tweed jackets, sundresses with floral patterns, and halter tops with Pop Art designs.

“We thought it would be something a little different,” Turk said of the fashion DVD, which she said cost as much to produce as a runway show.

The DVD debut was low-key, but its scheduling came at a time when Turk has been in the spotlight. She won the Fashion Achievement Award at the 2005 L.A. Fashion Awards on Oct. 21 (see related story, p. 10). She also confirmed that she plans to build another boutique, this time in New York City. Turk said that she made an offer on a space in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District. —Andrew Asch
