AAFA to Host Special Sizes Forum at Material World N.Y.

The American Apparel & Footwear Assn. (AAFA), in collaboration with the Fashion Institute of Technology’s Center for Professional Studies (FIT) and the National Retail Federation (NRF), is holding a special forum on shape and fit Sept. 27 at FIT in New York.

The event kicks off the first Material World New York fabric, technology and sourcing show, set for Sept. 28–30 at the Jacob Javitz Convention Center.

“Sizing It Special: A Fitting Experience for All Shapes and Sizes,” is a half-day forum that will focus on the importance of shape and fit as well as highlight the growing special sizes market.

“It’s a unique opportunity to hear from experts representing multiple facets of the special sizes markets and the tremendous potential in these underdeveloped markets for retail and wholesale casual and sportswear companies,” said AAFA President Kevin M. Burke.

Marshal Cohen, chief analyst for the research group NPD Fashionworld, will provide a keynote address. Other panelists include FIT instructor Bernard Kahn; Dorrit Bern, president of Charming Shoppes; Trudy Sullivan, executive vice president of Liz Claiborne Inc.; and model Emme.

Fees to attend the event are $250 for AAFA/NRF members and $350 for nonmembers. For more information, visit www.americanapparel.org. —Robert McAllister
