OptiTex Adds Cloth Simulator

New York–based OptiTex USA Inc. is adding a cloth-simulation tool to its Runway 3-D software that facilitates the importing of human body scans.

The company has teamed with Monterey, Calif., technology provider Cyberware Inc. to provide a module within the OptiTex product that allows users to input PLY format files and import highresolution body scans for draping purposes.

“While a computer-generated mannequin can accommodate different situations and possible fit sessions, the real-life body scan gets you as close as possible to real life,” said Julia Shaw, OptiTex’s national support manager.

“We see this as just the beginning of the integration of actual users and consumers into the garment design, selection and retail process,” added Stephen Addleman, vice president of Cyberware.

OptiTex officials said the new feature should help users improve speed-to-market by reducing the time needed for the fitting process as well as improve collaboration and accuracy. For more information, visit www.optitex.com. —Robert McAllister
