Duke University’s Executive Vice President Tallman Trask III said the school is trimming the number of factories it uses to produce its licensed apparel to keep a closer eye on working conditions. About 25 percent of the university’s apparel production will be moved to a smaller number of designated factories that meet the school’s requirements and that can be more closely monitored. The move may be followed by other schools because Duke is part of the Worker Rights Consortium, which keeps affiliated colleges informed about conditions in factories that produce products bearing their names and logos.
