AAFA, Avery to Offer RFID Discounts

The American Apparel & Footwear Association has joined forces with Pasadena, Calif.–based Avery Dennison’s Retail Information Services unit to provide discounted rates for RFID (radio frequency identification) labels to AAFA member companies.

The labels are used to comply with standards instituted by Wal-Mart Stores, Target Stores and others. The tags help retailers manage their inventories by reading tagged shipments with wireless scanners.

Avery will provide Gen 1 RFID labels and the new Gen 2 “AD-220” label. The program requires a minimum order of at least 5,000 labels.

“At the request of our members, AAFA’s staff worked with an industry task group represented by Perry Ellis International, Russell Corp., Sara Lee Corp. and Williamson-Dickie Manufacturing Co. to develop this affinity program as a service and benefit for AAFA members who wish to take advantage of lower label rates,” said AAFA President Kevin M. Burke.
