MAGIC Puts Feminine Looks on Pedestal

Pedestal, a new showcase for women’s contemporary lines, will launch Feb. 21–24 at WWDMagic in Las Vegas. The showcase, which will act as the center of the show’s contemporary category, will include more than 30 collection-driven lines offering Fall/Winter product. Exhibitors will include Project Alabama, Sharagano, Hale Bob, Bon Bon Rouge and Yellowfield 8.

“These are mainly lines created for women by women,” said Camille Candella, MAGIC International’s marketing director. “They’re all offering very feminine, contemporary, woman-focused product,” she said. The look of the showcase will emphasize its feminine focus. Buyers will shop beneath an oversized chandelier, walls will be tufted and white or laden with beads, and an all-female team of DJs will spin tunes in a lounge.

Pedestal is not to be mistaken for Platform, MAGIC’s premium contemporary showcase. “The main difference between Pedestal and Platform is the product,” Candella explained. “Platform offers dual-gender lines and more denim-based product.”

Olivia Perilman, marketing director for contemporary tops line Marisa K., is excited to position the line in Pedestal. “It seems like the hip, fun place to be,” she said. “We’re a relatively new company and the exposure will be good for us,” Perilman said. The Commerce, Calif.–based company showed at WWDMAGIC in August in the Index pavilion, which featured new and up-and-coming contemporary resources. —Erin Barajas
