Retail Shift

Many retail workers are planning to job hunt this year, according to a recent survey by CareerBuilder.com, which found that 35 percent of the retail workers it surveyed were planning to look for new jobs in 2006. The reason? A high number said they did not receive regular pay increases or annual bonuses, they had an increased workload, or there was a lack of opportunity for advancement. More than 50 percent of the workers said they had not received a raise the year before, and 60 percent said they were dissatisfied with their pay. More than 65 percent said their workload had increased in the past year, and many were unhappy with the “work-life balance,” according to the report. According to CareerBuilder.com executives, the company receives more than 2.5 million retail-related job searches each month.
