Miami Runway Report: ANK by Mirla Sabino

For a line that launched only a year ago, ANK created a splash on the runway. The collection, shown July 17, is co-designed by Brazilians Clecia Basso and Mirla Sabino, the exclusive international distributor of Agua de Coco. Sabino said she wanted to create a line that was exactly what customers were missing and wanted to wear. Utilizing unique second skin–like fabrications, a fine mesh tulle and velvet, the collection had an understated elegance.

“We took everything that’s out there in fashion and we transformed that into a swimsuit, but in a very delicate way, a very sophisticated way,” said Sabino. Subtle details were used to enhance the beauty of the 2007 collection, which was inspired by the different elements of the beach, including the colors and grains of the sand and the transparency of the water. Details such as wood balls were used to represent the grains of sand on a cream strapless one-piece. An embroidered swirl pattern on a black-and-white one-piece simulated the waves in the sand. And straw embroidery on a navy blue halter bikini resembled the wild flowers found by Brazilian beaches.

Standouts on the runway included a blue velvet bikini, a stunning black one-piece with an embellished metal art nouveau lace-like pattern and a mother-of-pearl button strapless maillot. —N.J.S.
