Miami Runway Report: Gideon Oberson

Gideon Oberson, the creative director for Tel Aviv, Israel–based Gottex, played with texture and color for his 2007 Resort collection. Flowers cut from a bright floral print were layered on a mesh shrug, and a striped print column dress was worn over a matching bikini.

The Italian designer added unexpected touches to his line, including Western-inspired leather insets on a floral cowgirl suit. Traditional south-of-the-border stripes got a dose of neon color, and embroidery on a collection of black suits was rendered using oversize stitches. Matching leggings accompanied some bikinis, but the designer said they were mainly intended to be runway exclusives.

A collection of black-and-white–striped suits layered with clear sequins was modern and glamorous, with an edge. Oberson closed the show on a sweet and romantic note with a white lace and satin “bridal” bikini accessorized with a fluffy white puppy. —Erin Barajas
