Levi's Web Site Focuses on History

San Francisco–based denim giant Levi Strauss & Co. has retooled its corporate Web site, www.levistrauss.com, to provide information for consumers, students, potential employees, media and investors.

The site outlines Levi’s 153-year history and provides current information about the company and its brands, Levi’s, Dockers and Levi Strauss Signature. There also is an e-commerce section on the site.

The Web site features updated news and financial sections, including links to the company’s SEC filings, financial reports and other press releases.

Among the features of the site’s heritage section is a company history, which spans the brand’s beginning during the California Gold Rush through its employment and citizenship efforts in the latter half of the 20th century. The heritage section includes documents written by Levi’s historian Lynn Downey, as well as a collection of more than 80 years of consumer correspondence to the company, including letters from such famous Levi’s fans as Cary Grant and Clint Eastwood.

The site’s citizenship section details Levi’s global sourcing and operating guidelines—the company’s international “code of conduct,” which was first introduced in 1991. The section also includes information about the company’s philanthropic efforts, including the Levi Strauss Foundation’s grant-making programs, which help prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and address workers’ rights issues.
