Gottschalks Chairman Retires

Joseph Levy on June 28 announced his retirement from Gottschalks Inc.’s board of directors. Levy, a member of the department store’s founding family, served as chairman of the board since the Fresnobased company went public in 1986. A company statement said he will remain as chairman throughout the rest of the year. Dr. Joseph Penbera, a member of the company’s board of directors, was elected the board’s lead director. He will preside over executive and special sessions of the company’s board of directors. He has served on the company’s board since 1986.
