Putting On the Scot
Scottish whisky brand The Glenlivit is getting in on the Academy Award gifting action by sending Best Actor nominees a bespoke kilt and all the traditional Scottish accessories, just in time for the March 5 ceremony. Philip Seymour Hoffman, Terrence Howard, Heath Ledger, Joaquin Phoenix and David Strathairn will each receive a custommade kilt, jacket, sporran (the leather or fur pouch worn at the waist), ghillie brogues (traditional lace-up shoes) and other accessories created by Kinloch Anderson, kiltmaker to the queen of England, the duke of Edinburgh and the prince of Wales. According to Jim Cryle, master distiller of The Glenlivet, “a man in a kilt is a man and a half.”
