Whiteboy in Transition

The first fashion show produced by the Los Angeles–based Whiteboy label was a snapshot of a clothing label in transition.

The 3-year-old label sees its future as a fashion streetwear brand. But in its 30-look fashion show, held March 20 at the Hollywood dive bar Jimmy’s Lounge, Whiteboy kept one foot planted in its roots as a hip-hop inspired T-shirt brand.

On display was the label’s roots in graphics sporting a cheeky sense of humor. A male model wore one of the label’s first offerings, a simple T-shirt with red lettering that bore the word “Whiteboy.” The label’s fashionoriented streetwear pieces offered T-shirts, hoodies and jackets, which whittled down the backhanded humor of the label’s name to a more manageable logo bearing one letter: “W.”

The outerwear ranged from a camouflage-style hoodie, which also bore the image of another label logo: a rooster. Other jackets resembled a letterman’s jacket with the moniker “W.” The fashion show also featured runway-only pieces such as boyshorts worn by some of the female models. —Andrew Asch
