Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall '06: Juuml;nker

Juuml;nker Designs tends to put on fashion shows that are as much a performance as they are a runway show, which is appropriate since the Los Angeles label’s edgy rock star clothing is worn by such wellknown musicians as Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. Juuml;nker presented clothing suited for the stage and not afraid to attract attention March 24 at the Spider Club in Los Angeles. The Shocker and Bloody Robots played before the runway show.

One theme of the collection was “how to dress like a hooker and still stay warm.” Designers Giuliana Mayo and Tod Waters answered the riddle with sharply cut leather jackets in distressed colors paired with micro-mini leather skirts that could double as a wide belt and long leather coats with lace-up back detail. The men wore black eyeliner and super-low-rise zipper-fly skinny pants in black denim or leather.

Shiny blood-red leather corsets, red fur lining, tartan red plaid accents and a purple garter belt on a ballerina skirt added bursts of color to a collection that included a lot of beat-up black leather and black denim. —Rhea Cortado
