Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall '06: Lourdes

Lourdes designer Patricia Fistes-Adams is not a believer in less is more. She went big for Fall at her fashion show March 20 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios.

The Scottsdale, Ariz.–based designer’s theme for Fall was royalty. She reflected on the age of decoration, sparing no expense on details—showing big collars, big ruffles and long trains—and not a hint of subtlety.

One look, called “the Queen of Punk,” reinterpreted historical dress from Elizabethan and Victorian eras with an irreverent and nonconformist approach. It translated into high asymmetric necklines, knee-length drawers and miniskirts, as well as details such as safety pins, big ruffling, Swarovski crystals galore and intricate embroidery. One gown was decorated with cellophane butterflies; another featured a giant rosette. Pleating, layering and poofy sleeves were prominent. Amid all the elaborate looks were a few more-traditional leather skirts and shirtings.

The designer also showed her new children’s and men’s collections featuring ball gowns and lightweight shirts, respectively. It was all part of Fistes-Adams’ Barking Fire Productions, which is set to open its first store this year. —Robert McAllister
