Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall '06: Meghan

Designer Meghan Noland’s Fall 2006 collection, presented March 16 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios, was made for an international woman of mystery named “James Blonde.” Noland was inspired by the cultures of France, Germany and Amsterdam during her first trip to Europe earlier this year.

The models were done up with blonde wigs and trench coats with bold crystal buttons, which helped convey the undercover spy theme.

In the past, Noland has incorporated vintage fabrics for an eclectic feel. This time around, she used all modern fabrics, but mixed prints and textures on a single garment—satin animal prints, lace and transparent floral prints—in a way that remained true to her signature style.

Noland topped off the dresses with funky embellishments. One long, retro lime green-colored dress featured bottle caps on the collar. Halter dresses and tops had a row of vintage cameos underneath the bust. Kimono sleeves were trimmed with fringe. And strips of metal mesh hung from the bottom of one dress. Noland didn’t stop there. Dangling on her handmade necklaces were evil-eye pendants, tassels, revolver gun charms and a brass-colored cross. —Rhea Cortado
