Trovata Launches Bag Line

Papa’s got a brand-new bag. Jeff Halmos, Sam Shipley and John Whitledge of Trovata, the Newport Beach, Calif.–based brand that has become an industry darling, have collaborated with Reed Krakoff, creative director and president of luxury accessories maker Coach, to launch an exclusive line of bags for men and women. The line, which features his and her versions in canvas and patent-leather fabrications, will sell at select Barneys New York locations beginning in January.

Based on a traditional carpet-bag shape, Trovata’s bags get the brand’s trademark treatment of a “modern take on a classic piece,” said Halmos. “We tried to make a bag that exemplifies Trovata, so we took a classic piece—in this case a carpet bag—and updated it by using raw canvas and patent leather,” he said.

The bags will retail for $495 for the men’s canvas and leather trim version, $595 for the women’s patent-leather version and $695 for the “Flukes”-print version. Only 250 bags will be produced across all six colorways, and each will be hand-numbered.
