Vietnam Joins WTO
Vietnam received its official invitation on Nov. 7 to join the World Trade Association, which would make it the 150th member of the organization. The National Assembly has a month to ratify the accord. WTO membership gives members access to foreign markets and the ability to present trade disputes to a neutral arbiter. As a member, Vietnam will lower its tariffs on foreign imports, and state-owned companies will no longer be subsidized.
