Happy Birthday, XLarge

Los Angeles–based XLarge Clothing marked its 15th year with a party and fashion show at Hollywood’s Vanguard on Nov. 16. The urban streetwear brand launched in 1991 with the backing of the white-boy rap outfit Beastie Boys. Now, the brand owns 13 retail stores in Japan and maintains its original Vermont Avenue location in Los Angeles’ Los Feliz neighborhood.

More than 600 longtime friends of the brand, including the Beastie Boys’ Mike D. and actor John C. Reilly, joined buyers and fans of the brand for the party.

On the catwalk, the brand’s Holiday 2006 XLarge men’s clothing and X’e women’s clothing were a mix of cold-weather staples—think puffy vests and lots of layering— and streetwear favorites. Hoodies, baggy jeans, all-over print T-shirts and navel-baring baby Ts were all strongly represented. —Erin Barajas
