Swimwear Company Settles Legal Battle

After two years of legal tussling and five volumes of court documents, Maxine Swim Group Inc., now operating as Manhattan Beachwear, has settled its case against president and chief executive Vince Rojas.

The settlement was made Oct. 3, the day the case was scheduled to go to trial in Los Angeles Superior Court in front of Judge Irving S. Feffer.

The dispute, filed in 2004, concerned Rojas’ compensation. Rojas filed a countersuit pertaining to his stock ownership.

Maxine Swim Group, based in Cypress, Calif., produces such swimwear labels as Hot Kiss, Hobie, Surfside, Kenneth Cole, Reaction and Maxine.

Rojas’ attorney, Kevin Brogan, said the two sides settled the case on confidential terms. “Specifically, both parties confirmed that the evidence revealed during discovery did not support the allegations made in the case,” he wrote in an e-mail.

Maxine’s in-house attorney, Randal Whitecotton, did not return calls.

According to court documents, both sides will be responsible for their own legal fees. —Deborah Belgum
