L.A. Fashion Week Spring '07: Juuml;nker

Los Angeles label Juuml;nker Designs set a new standard for spooky theater with its Oct. 19 runway show. The Los Angeles label hosted its show in front of the mausoleum of the Hollywood Forever cemetery in Los Angeles. The show kicked off after 10:30 p.m. with a contortionist, who twisted her body into pretzel-like shapes to a thundering soundtrack of punk rock music.

The show offered over 25 looks for the more than 500 Hollywood rockers and fashion business people in the audience. Many of the looks were Juuml;nker’s standard Goth- and rock-inspired designs—leather bustiers constructed to show cleavage, denim with rock ’n’ roll–inspired patchwork, and distressed leather pants with details created by anything from scissors to buckshot. Wholesale price points ranged from $22 for T-shirts to $1,500 for some of the leatherwork. Juuml;nker designers Giuliana Mayo and Tod Waters also debuted new styles, such as leather garments constructed from soft deerskin, over-dyed tutu skirts with garters, and, for a dose of punk patriotism, a trench coat crafted from vintage American flags. —Andrew Asch
