L.A. Fashion Week Spring '07: Metro7

Wal-Mart got into the game of cheap-chic style with its Metro7 fashion line, which debuted for the Spring 2006 season. On Oct. 16 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif., Wal-Mart’s fashion line showed its collections for Holiday 2006 and Spring/Summer 2007.

The 47-look show featured short shorts for Spring 2007, dark jersey dresses for Holiday 2006 and cream eyelet tops for Spring 2007. Retail price points range from $8.97 to $54.94. The styles enchanted David Wolfe, the creative director for New York–based buying office and retail consultancy Doneger Creative Services. “It looked like fashion,” he said. “Women who want to be cool and don’t have the money will be able to do fashion.”

(Wal-Mart is a client of Doneger, but Wolfe said that he did not consult the Metro7 line.)

For glitz, Metro7 spokesmodel Dayanara Torres was present at the runway show along with several of the cast members of “Fashion House,” a rags-business drama on the Fox-owned MyNetwork TV. It debuted on Sept. 6. —Andrew Asch
