L.A. Fashion Week Spring '07: Tart

Tart made its runway debut Oct. 17 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif., with an expanded collection that goes beyond its signature tops and loungewear collection. Designed by Sherry Wood, under the tutelage of owners Jamie and Dana Finegold, the California brand expanded beyond its core offerings of super-soft fabrics and body-skimming silhouettes. Wood and company have been spicing up the line with a more resort appeal as well as a touch of sophistication. So it was the right time to break it out on the runway.

The Spring lineup featured many of its super-soft Modal and jersey fabrics on feminine silhouettes including tunics, jumpers, pleated tops, wrap skirts and babydolls.

Wood likes to work on details, featuring lots of ruffles, pleats and rusching, but she didn’t sacrifice any comfort over fashion. Highlights included her “fruity” series, featuring long halter dresses in plum and strapless jumper in grape. —Robert McAllister
