The details can make a pair of denim. In the case of Los Angeles–based line William Rast, its pleated back pocket topped off by a big rectangular flap has been the selling point for the label—not the fact that it was co-founded by pop superstar Justin Timberlake, said San Diego County jeans retailer Laura Fairchild.
But Timberlake’s celebrity overshadowed the runway show for William Rast’s Spring/Summer 2007 show, held at the Social Hollywood nightclub in Los Angeles on Oct. 17.
The show was one of the most hyped events of Los Angeles Fashion Week, with a Timberlake performance following the runway show, and his celebrity pals such as Paris Hilton and Cameron Diaz in attendance at the 27-look show. On the runway, the label made an effort to jump beyond its premium-jeans focus into a full fashion collection.
Looks for girls included short, denim hot pants and mini dresses. Guys’ looks included gingham tops and American standards such as jeans and white T-shirts. But the runway show wasn’t reserved for styles with a tough look. Also exhibited were prep looks with a Southern flavor such as crisp coats and chino-style pants. —Andrew Asch
