San Francisco Fashion Week '06: Donna Lou

Before creating her own line, designer Amanda Lefebre was designing clothes for the Los Angeles label Bat’s Daughter for a little more than two years. Living in Santa Cruz, Calif., the graduate of The Art Institute of Seattle has taken her love of vintage styles to create the Donna Lou label, geared toward young contemporary consumers. “I try to make pieces that are similar to vintage styling but have a more modern, body-conscious silhouette,” said the young designer, who was a buyer for six years at a vintage clothing store in Seattle. Lefebre took her love of detailing to add twists of lace appliqueacute; and patch and flap pockets to her mostly cotton creations. Her silhouettes, such as pencil skirts and blazers, are very fitted, but a modern touch is added with hoodie tops. She added dropped waists to her skirts and dresses. Her suits added a 3 percent stretch fabric for more flexibility. Muted colors of mocha browns paired with moss green or aqua with dusty rose were a dominant theme.
