San Francisco Fashion Week '06: Gypsy and Loc

Husband and wife team Gypsy Rader and Loiuml;c Massias started their career designing womenswear, but when they evolved into men’s casual wear, they knew they had a winner and dropped women’s fashions. The duo, who studied at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in San Francisco and the San Francisco Academy of Pattern Making and Design, have a subtle style that is hip but not over the top. They energize their collections with major doses of organic fibers, such as hemp, bamboo and organic cotton, giving a soft and comfortable feel to their hooded tank tops and cotton pants. They use subtle colors that come from non-synthetic dyes—from gray blues and coal grays to olives, bark browns and stone beiges—to add to the natural feel of the well-constructed but comfortable clothing. Their winning formula is in the unique stitching found on their pants and jackets, which turns the back of a jacket or a waistband into a work of art.
