New York Fashion Week: Chaiken

San Francisco designer Julie Chaiken hit the Olympus Fashion Week runway on Sept. 12 with her Spring 2007 collection, which incorporated her penchant for clean, sophisticated looks that are easy to wear.

β€œIt really is about the perfect piece this season. There was no particular muse,” noted Chaiken, who started her line in 1994 and has been going strong ever since.

Chaiken worked with designer Jeff Mahshie to take cotton radzimir and silks and mold them into triangle dresses, walking shorts and elegant strapless dresses. The color palette for Spring started with such basic colors as black, gray, white and chocolate, and then added a dollop of bright fuchsia and cobalt blue. As usual, the Spring collection was wearable for day or night.
