Crimes and Misdemeanors

NEW BEGINNING: Iris Friedman’s Los Angeles–based line, Crimes and Misdemeanors, made a splash in 2005 with sweatpants, hoodies and tees embellished with Swarovski-crystal skulls and hearts. The line was sold in contemporary stores, including Lisa Kline in Los Angeles. For Fall 2007, Friedman relaunched her line with a new dressed-up look. “The focus is mod and an homage to Mondrian with a 21st-century twist,” said Friedman. Remembering Twiggy and other pop-culture icons that she romanticized as a child in the 1960s, Friedman modernized her mod dresses in a less boxy silhouette and fresh color combinations. —Rhea Cortado
