Directives West: quot;L.A. Over Easy, quot; Juniors and Girls' Fall Fashion

Directives West brought a little of the fashion-week buzz to the Los Angeles Majors Market on April 10, when the Los Angeles–based retail consultancy hosted a runway show in a tent erected in the California Market Center’s courtyard. Loud music, seat thieves and the buzz of celebrity (socialite Paris Hilton debuted her eponymous line of juniors apparel at the show) greeted the full house of buyers, who waited for the runway show to begin fashionably late. Directives West chose an “L.A. Over Easy” theme and showcased juniors and girls Fall 2007 fashions from a range of market resources.

A collection of knit styles kicked off the show. Printed mini-dresses in retro prints paired with tights and trapeze jackets proved popular. Long, chunky sweaters offset flirty jersey mini-dresses.

A group of menswear-inspired pieces featured plenty of plaids and pin stripes in feminine shapes. Kicky skirts, romper dresses, pencil skirts and wide-leg trousers in menswear fabrics were paired with argyle vests, tie-neck blouses and shrunken blazers.

Grandma chic took a girlish turn in the next group. Satin blouses, ditsy flowers and lace were paired with printed chiffon, gold brocade and plenty of gold details. Shapes ranged from mod shifts to tailored separates. Denim came in an “anything goes” variety of shapes and colors, including high-waist silhouettes and fitted peacoats.

Hilton’s collection, which launched for Fall in collaboration with Dollhouse, closed the show. Chock-full of neon pink and piles of sparkle, the collection included skinny jeans coated in glitter and modeled by the heiress herself.—Erin Barajas
