Fashion Meets the Water

The Port of Los Angeles is 100 years old this year. And to celebrate the event, the port is partnering with the California Fashion Association to hold a fashion show and reception on July 12 to emphasize the importance of the port in the local apparel industry’s international sourcing strategy.

The event, to be held at the Grand Hope Park next to the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in downtown Los Angeles, will present styles by local designers who create fashions for men, women, juniors and children.

“As part of our centennial celebration, we are highlighting the role of the port and international trade in the textile and garment industries that bring Southern California designers’ work to life,” said Geraldine Knatz, the port’s executive director.

The fashion show will be produced by Jim Watterson, former vice president of public relations and special events for the May Department Stores Co., which was acquired in 2005 by Federated Department Stores Inc. For more information, call (213) 688- 6288.—D.B.
